Massport Boston CruiseportMassport decided to invest $11 million in the renovation and expansion of the Boston Cruiseport. RDK worked with Architerra on the exterior improvements, including lighting, before focusing on mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection, telecommunications and security design for interior renovations in the baggage, ticket, security, and waiting areas and the installation of air conditioning on the third floor. The renovation and expansion of the recently renamed Boston Cruiseport aims to create a better overall experience for passengers while streamlining the process of embarking and disembarking. Originally both functions would happen on the same level, but now passengers embark on the third level and disembark on the second level, making it easier to navigate security, ticketing, and baggage areas. Close coordination with Massport fire and police was critical to the success of this project. The team needed to work with Massport to make sure they were incorporating their system requirements into the design while remaining within the budget. Open communication between everyone involved in this effort was a major factor in the overall success of this project. |
