Amtrak Centralized Electric and Traffic Control (CETC) Facilities

Amtrak’s CETC stations serve as mission-critical facilities designed to control railway traffic switches and signals from single point and are critical for ensuring commuter safety, exacting scheduling compliance, and reliability.

RDK Engineers provided MEP/FP and security system design on this fast-track, design-build project for the replacement of the dedicated computer room cooling system at the existing 4,421 square foot, mission-critical Centralized Electric and Traffic Control facility (CETC) located on the 5th floor at South Station, as well as the construction of a new 2-story 8,744 square foot CETC within an existing warehouse at the backup Cobble Hill location in Somerville.

System design included new VAV systems, dual generators, primary and backup electrical systems, new UPS systems, and a specialized Clean Agent Fire Suppression System.

This project provided Amtrak with two state-of-the-art CETC facilities: the primary South Station facility and the backup Somerville facility, for monitoring all trains running in the Northeast Corridor.
