Millipore Mobius II Cleanroom (LEED)

Millipore Mobius ll Cleanroom (LEED Gold)

The Millipore Danvers facility manufactures the corporation’s trademarked Mobius single-use technology products including: filters, connectors, and process containers used in a variety of pharmaceutical production applications. When the company chose to build out space for a LEED certified cleanroom, RDK Engineer was brought onto the design team led by Hoddess Construction.

RDK provided MEP engineering design/build services for the retro-fit of an existing unused manufacturing space into an energy-efficient, Class 10,000 cleanroom designed for LEED Certification.

RDK designed two 100-ton cooled chillers, and added 50,000 CFM by adding two roof-top units, and one 9,0000 CFM makeup Air Unit. The system controls were specially designed to monitor and regulate the particulate count within the space which minimizes exertion of the HVAC systems and allows the fans to cycle back when the particulate count is stabilized, thus conserving energy.

RDK incorporated the use of existing air systems, supporting an adjacent cleanroom, into the design for the new cleanroom space, thereby increasing efficiencies.  Also, the systems were designed to provide redundancy, supporting constant operation, so that in case of emergency or equipment repair, the systems will remain operational.  RDK designed occupancy sensors for the lighting to control and minimize energy usage. This fast-track project was conducted while operations continued, and was completed on time and on budget.

The final design concept included integrating the main conference room adjacent to the cleanroom for ease of demonstrating Millipore processes to clients.
