Gillette EIG RelocationAs part of a master plan that had been under development at Gillette for several years, RDK Engineers provided project management and MEP/FP design for the renovation of nearly 100,000 square feet of space at the company’s South Boston Manufacturing Plant. The Financial Services Group, which was located at Copley Plaza, was nearing the end of its lease and Gillette facility planners had determined that relocating them back to South Boston was necessary. RDK led the relocation effort for the Engineering and Implementation Group while keeping their down-time to a minimum. To do this RDK mobilized a team of engineers to survey the 400 pieces of existing equipment and collect all documentation necessary to facilitate the equipment at its new location in L-Building. Much of the equipment was one-of-a-kind without any nameplate data. RDK worked with the staff to lay out all the equipment and developed design drawings to provide services to all the equipment. These services included power, specialty lighting, dust collection, oil mist collection, compressed air, water, etc. Also included in the project was a complete renovation of the L-Building area for life safety and architectural finishes. RDK developed both project cost estimates and a detailed project schedule for all of this work. We collaborated with two architectural firms as our sub-consultants and issued three separate sets of bid drawings for the project. RDK gained valuable experience in the E/F/G complex and we consider this one of the most challenging yet rewarding projects we have ever completed. RDK’s work on the Gillette EIG Relocation project resulted in an improved working environment and an enhanced workspace for the Gillette employees. |
