Eisai Research Institute Commissioning

Eisai Research Institute (ERI), a subsidiary of Eisai Company Ltd. of Japan, specializes in the discovery and development of drugs for cancer, inflammation, and immunological disorders. The RDK Commissioning Team was contracted in the construction phase of the new state-of-the-art pharmacology research facility, including highly automated chemistry, biology, and drug safety disposition laboratories. 

The facility, located in Andover, Massachusetts, also includes offices, conference space, and a library.As is always the case when commissioning a project, the RDK Team approached this effort with one goal in mind:  Ensure that the future inhabitants of the building have a comfortable space, while making sure everything functions according to the designer’s originally intended plan. 

The RDK Team developed a commissioning plan, coordinated meetings with all stakeholders, reviewed operation and maintenance manuals, provided pre-functional test report forms, and used input from both contractors and the design team to develop detailed functional-performance-test procedures.  RDK also maintained a master-deficiency and corrective-action log. Additional commissioning was performed at Eisai’s adjacent lab and office building.

In addition, RDK assisted in assessing computerized maintenance management software (CMMS) systems and solicited bids for the purchase of this software. CMMS will allow the Eisai Operations Group to be proactive in managing the building assets.  RDK was also selected to be one of the teams that would be on-call for ESI in the future should any new opportunities for commissioning arise.
