Gillette Stadium CommissioningWhen the Kraft Group decided to build a new stadium for the New England Patriots, they wanted to make sure every system was fully functioning and ready to accommodate the thousands of people who would be using this new space in the future. The stadium itself is located in Foxboro, Massachusetts and is a world-class sports/event facility with a seating capacity of nearly 70,000. The stadium also offers clubhouse seating for 6,000 and 87 luxury suites. Among the stadium’s numerous amenities and features are 46 permanent concession stands; two giant HDTV screens; 1,000 monitors; 2,000 sound sources; and an 80,000 square-foot year-round training facility. RDK was retained in order to provide independent inspection and assist with commissioning of the state-of-the art facility’s HVAC, plumbing, fire protection, electrical power and sports lighting systems prior to occupancy. As part of the commissioning effort, the RDK Team bar-coded over 1,300 pieces of equipment for input into a computerized maintenance management (CMMS) system to facilitate stadium maintenance, including provision of a database for MEP equipment asset management. RDK also completed an energy study to identify and evaluate a broad range of energy/utility saving opportunities at the stadium. Because of the success of the project and the successful relationship among RDK and the stadium owners, the RDK Commissioning Team continues to be retained for on-going design and facility support services on existing and new projects at Gillette Stadium. |
