Mission Critical

IBM Data Center by RDK Engineers

IBM Data Center

After acquiring various software companies scattered across dozens of locations and relocating them to the Littleton facility, one of the major challenges was combining the information stored in their individual data centers into IBM’s new data center on campus. As part of the design team, RDK worked to develop standards for combining all of the information and to design the right size data center to work within IBM’s budget.

The 494,000 square foot building included 60,000 square feet of data center and lab space. RDK designed the main data center on a 25,000 square foot raised floor. The raised floor allows the delivery of air right at level of the equipment, which means faster delivery of this air at a lower temperature, making it more energy efficient. RDK designed a back-up power system for all of the processing equipment which was of critical importance to IBM in order to keep information safe and equipment running if power were to be lost.
