Rex Healthcare’s Birth Center at Rex’s main hospital campus was completely renovated to create a modern, comfortable, state-of-the-art maternity facility with 3 nurseries, thirty post partum rooms with amenities such as private baths with showers, and a full array of support spaces including nurses stations, a formula preparation station, a staff work room and an exam room. RDK Engineers of NC, as PWI Consulting Engineers – Southeast, served as MEP engineers on the project, which involved demolishing existing space to the shell, a process requiring exacting care and. attention to detail in the occupied hospital. Designs included two air handling units, all medical gas, and a handprint security system for the nursery unit.
