MCPHS Living & Learning Center
Worcester, MA

The Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences' (MCPHS) new $20 million Living and Learning Center is a dynamic multipurpose facility created through adaptive reuse of an old urban industrial/commercial building originally constructed in 1913. RDK designed building systems for redevelopment of the run-down 8-story building into a new 90,000 SF academic/mixed-use complex that now contains commercial/retail space on the first floor; state-of-the-art academic medical laboratories for experiential instruction, as well as classrooms, offices and conference facilities on the 3rd & 4th floors; and five floors of apartment-style dormitory residences. A new 9th floor was also added, with a glass-enclosed executive conference room and roof terrace. The extensive renovations required for the dramatic conversion were completed on a highly-accelerated schedule to meet MCPHS' requirements.
