The William X. Wall Experiment Station is the principal testing laboratory for the Massachusetts Dept. of Environmental Protection, responsible for water supply and air testing throughout the state. The Station is currently undergoing a $22 million renovation/expansion that will transform the laboratory into a state-of-the-art “green” facility. A new 13,000 SF addition will expand the complex to 35,000 SF, housing cutting-edge organic and inorganic chemistry and microbiology labs and analytical equipment.
As MEP/FP engineers on the project, RDK has evaluated numerous sustainable systems to attain LEED Gold certification, a number of which are being incorporated into the facility’s final design, including rooftop photovoltaic panels to provide solar energy; a high-efficiency HVAC system; grey water and rain water recycling systems; and lab exhaust air heat recovery.
