Westfield State College’s newest residence hall is a modern 4-story, 119,500 SF complex containing 78 one-and-two bedroom apartment style units, each with a common room, kitchen and private baths. The complex also houses a Resident Director’s apartment, mailroom, laundry facilities, convenience shop, lounge and student activity areas, and facility management space. Designed to accommodate not only student activities during the academic year, but also conferencing activities throughout the summer, the new facility is fully air conditioned and equipped with a state-of-the-art security system. RDK design all MEP/FP and telecom-munications systems for the complex, including a Direct Digital Control (DDC) building management system for energy efficiency; automatic sprinklers; an emergency generator for back-up of life safety systems; standby power for lighting and heating systems; and a lightning protection system.
The project received a BSA/SCUP Higher Education Facilities Award Program Citation for Design Excellence.
