The new corporate jet hangar at Hanscom Field is a 36,000 SF structure that contains office, maintenance, passenger, conference and flight planning facilities as well as aircraft storage space. Because environmental sustainability is a key Massport requirement for development projects at Hanscom, the building was designed to meet or exceed LEED

certification specifications. Among the many sustainable features and systems identified/designed by RDK for the project are specialized lighting fixtures to reduce light pollution; low water or waterless fixtures to reduce water consumption; a permanent carbon dioxide monitoring system interfaced with a building management system for indoor air quality management; and evaporative-cooled rooftop units, condensing boilers, and daylight sensors to reduce energy consumption. The hangar design also features high expansion foam fire suppression systems, pre-action systems, and a cistern-fed fire pump.
