RDK designed MEP/FP systems for a new four-story, 132,327 SF parking garage that serves the busy Burlington Square Mall in downtown Burlington, VT. Precise control over lighting levels in the facility were of special concern to the owner for two reasons. First, "light pollution" caused by overspill of lighting into the areas surrounding the structure, which had been a problem at other facilities in the City, had to be avoided. Secondly, the lighting had to be uniform throughout the interior of the facility in order for the security cameras to have clear views of all parts of the high-activity garage to ensure public safety. RDK's lighting engineers worked very closely with lighting fixture manufacturers to modify standard fixtures in a variety of ways for different portions of the facility, so that lighting levels would meet the extremely stringent specifications required by the owner throughout the structure.
