New Bandwidth Semiconductor Clean Room
Hudson, NH
RDK designed the MEP/FP infrastructure for a 100,000 SF expansion of Bandwidth Semiconductor's electronic component manufacturing facility in Hudson, NH. The design-build project involved construction of new Class 100, 1000, and 10,000 clean rooms totaling 30,000 SF; a chilled water plant; steam boiler; and associated electrical, mechanical, and life safety systems. A notable feature of the project was the first use of a CAT flywheel UPS system in New England to safeguard against power interruption, critical for avoidance of costly manufacturing losses resulting from power failures. The system requires only the floor space of a traditional battery-powered UPS system, and has a 97% efficiency rating, compared to 90%-94% for traditional systems. This can result in significant operational energy cost savings. Cost savings are also realized by reduction in required maintenance, since the need for battery inspection, testing, and replacement is eliminated. The elimination of batteries also lowers environmental health and safety risks and compliance costs.
