Demand for Cytyc's medical diagnostic products necessitated both expansion of their manufacturing capacity, and protection from interruption in their manufacturing capability. To meet these needs, the company converted of a portion of their Londonderry, NH operations, formerly used as a warehouse, into a new Redundant Manufacturing Space (RMS). Warehouse operations were moved into a new 37,000 SF state-of-the art Distribution Center in Methuen, MA. RDK provided building systems designs for both of these FDA-certified facilities.
Conversion of the former warehouse space into the 17,000 SF RMS required complete separation/isolation of the space from the existing manufacturing space (EMS) by a firewall. Prior to the physical separation of the spaces, RDK surveyed all the utilities coming into each. Some systems needed to be re-routed, and all had to be duplicated so the facilities could operate independently. Both contain Class 1 Division 1 Hazard rooms, requiring specialized systems.
RDK also assisted with documentation required to gain FDA certification for the RMS and warehouse, which provide Cytyc with the space, security, and energy-efficient operational capacity they need.
