Phillips Academy's new $28M Richard L. Gelb Science Center, is a 58,000 SF state-of-the-art science facility housing three floors of advanced teaching and learning spaces, including twenty laboratories, classrooms, seminar rooms, instrument rooms, preparatory areas, study-session spaces, and a roof-top astronomical observatory.
In keeping with the Academy's desire to promote a deeper awareness of the natural world, the Gelb Center was designed with numerous "Green" features, to minimize environmental impacts. RDK was retained by the Academy to commission the new building's HVAC system, controls systems, and electrical power system, to verify that they reliably perform to the high level of energy efficiency for which they were designed. RDK worked closely with the campus automation system contractor, the testing, adjusting and balancing contractor, and Phillips Academy facility personnel throughout building commissioning.
