Holten-Richmond Middle School
Danvers, MA
Construction of the new Holten-Richmond Middle School involved the “gut” renovation of two circa 1930 buildings, totalling over 90,000 SF, and addition of a new 59,000 connector building, to create a 149,000 SF state-of-the-art academic complex. The new facility, containing classrooms, cafeteria, full kitchen, media center, gymnasium, and administrative offices, was designed to achieve energy savings of almost 25% over current energy code requirements, allowing the project to receive Massachusetts Technology Collaborative (MTC) energy efficiency grant funding. As MEP engineer on the project, RDK investigated numerous “Green” building systems alternatives for the project, many of which were integrated into the school’s final design. RDK was also responsible for commissioning of the HVAC and electrical systems, and additional MTC Grant credit was attained by extending RDK’s commissioning services to include commissioning of facilities management, which involved systems training and development of an equipment database with preventative maintenance requirements.
