Hebrew Senior Life/ Newbridge on the Charles by RDK Engineers

NewBridge on the Charles

NewBridge on the Charles is a new 140-acre multigenerational campus situated on the Charles River in Dedham, Massachusetts. Ten buildings stand on the one million square foot campus serving as home to many seniors who are able to transition throughout the facility to the type of living that best suits them at their current life-stage. The campus is home to a K-12 school as well as a rehabilitation center that provides healthcare services to NewBridge residents and the community.

Given the enormous size of the facility, the Perkins Eastman/RDK team made it a priority to minimize operational costs and energy usage. Team members investigated many options for the campus and with input from the town officials, owner, and team, decided on a closed loop geothermal system. The campus includes over 400 geothermal wells that utilize the earth to produce heating and cooling for the facilities, thus reducing carbon dioxide emissions and saving on energy costs. Other sustainable features that RDK assisted with include a rainwater collection system, low flow toilets, green roofs, and high efficiency lighting, all of which helped the Hebrew Senior Life project team reach their overall goals.

  • 150,000 square foot Village center and support facility, 50 cottage units, 28 units in two villa buildings,
