UNCH Imaging and Outpatient Center by RDK Engineers

UNC Hospital Imaging and Outpatient Center

Of note as UNC Hospital’s first LEED building, their premier, free standing, imaging, outpatient and spinal clinic is located approximately five miles from the hospital.

Teamed with BJAC Architects, RDK provided MEP/FP design services for this new building including two MRI's, two CT scanners, general radiation rooms, ultrasound, mammography, physical therapy and a spinal clinic. This project was very important to the surrounding community because it provided a facility that was easy to access for patients that cannot easily maneuver through a large, crowded hospital.

The design included a mobile lithography unit as well as a state-of-the-art data network connection linked directly to the hospital. The connection will allow real-time monitoring of remote procedures from the hospitals main imaging center.  Thinking of the future, the design team included addtional support for two mobile scanning units, one mobile MRI and one PET Scanner.

RDK worked closely with UNCH’s owners, doctors and staff to provide continuous contact throughout design and construction. This project earned notoriety and praise as it is UNCH’s first LEED facility.
