UNC Healthcare Women’s and Children’s HospitalIt was essential that UNC Healthcare increase their bed count in order to relieve wait time and congestion in their maternity birthing rooms and pediatric intensive care unit. RDK, working with BJAC Architects, was tasked with this expansion and renovation which was extremely important due to the nature of the medical services being provided in these sections of the hospital. The comfort of the patients was paramount while design and construction took place. RDK maintained a multi-phase design in order to minimize disruption to hospital operations. The RDK team worked closely with UNCH doctors, nurses and maintenance staffs to assure all of the needs of the departments were being met. In addition, the team upgraded the security system to improve the safety of the patients and staff within the facility. A HUGS system was incorporated into the security design. HUGS are an automated and fully supervised infant security system the hospital uses as a tag to uniquely identify each infant. The RDK team was proud to improve the quality of life for the patients and staff that use the services of the UNCH women’s hospital. |
