Milford Whitinsville Hospital by RDK Engineers

Milford- Whitinsville Hospital

RDK is proud to say that the Milford-Whitinsville Regional Hospital (MWRH) expansion was our premier hospital project and our jumping-off point into Healthcare. Working with Steffian Bradley Architects, RDK participated in this 75,000 square foot two-story addition/renovation including eight operating rooms, a new central plant, clinical labs, surgery recovery, kitchen, administrative space, demolition and some very innovative technologies.

Radiant heating is more frequently used today, but it was still relatively uncommon when RDK recommended it to Milford-Whitinsville.  There was no room for baseboards in the patient rooms as all the beds were close to windows. The best alternative to keep patients and their families comfortable was radiant heating.

RDK also introduced laminar flow systems into the two new operating rooms for orthopedic surgeries. Laminar flow was recommended in order to minimize infection and is now popular in the orthopedic world.

      Key Features:

  • Major upgrades to hospital Central Plant in order to go handle addition
  • Flexible designs to accommodate planned future expansion
  • New cooling tower, electric driven chillers, high and low pressure boilers
  • Primary and secondary chilled water system
  • Scrubber system for exhaust from new kitchen
