Carolinas Medical Center PinevilleThe addition of the Pineville energy plant has allowed the hospital to grow into a tertiary medical center, enabling the hospital to accommodate a broader range and a larger number of patients than ever before. The energy plant provides critical utility systems to the hospital. A unique system which RDK, as part of the Wright McGraw Beyer team, implemented was an emergency power supply system (EPSS) that has the ability to not only heat the hospital on emergency power but cool it as well. The plant itself is also capable of operating upon a loss of water due to a processed water system taken from ground wells. This specific energy plant has the ability to be remotely run from another campus and has a highly advanced system to detect any potential problems from a distance using monitoring and control devices. All of these precautions were taken with the critical patient care in mind. RDK also worked closely with the plant operations staff to provide specific equipment selection in an effort to reduce maintenance and energy usage. A SCADA system was used for energy management purposes, which in turn saves the owners money. |
