MA Statehouse Renovations

Massachusetts Statehouse

Through our Bureau of State Office Buildings (BSOB) On-Call contract, RDK has provided engineering consulting services on several renovation projects at the Massachusetts State House. Projects have included renovations to the Gardiner Auditorium; an elevator study; a new handicap lift in Doric Hall; and wayfinding planning services.

Teaming with Simpson, Gumpertz, and Heger, the Massachusetts Statehouse Roof Replacement Project involves MEP Engineering Design services for renovating the massive roof on which four main skylights are being retrofitted with building integrated photovoltaic glazing that includes 122 translucent photovoltaic panels of various sizes and shapes.

The total output of the system is expected to be 13kW and will not exceed NSTAR’s limitation of 15kW for spot network electric power system interconnection. RDK decided to design and install a monitoring system complete with weather instrumentation to monitor all parameters related to the photovoltaic system. A kiosk will function to inform the public about the system with real-time and historic data available on a graphic touch screen. RDK is proud to be part of the design team that is equipping the majestic Statehouse with the latest in cost-cutting, energy-efficient, photovoltaic system design.
