General Services Administration (GSA) Childcare FacilitiesThere are 110 childcare facilities under the GSA Office of Childcare. The GSA’s goal was to improve upon this benefit for their employees by renovating and expanding the facilities where their children learn and play each day. RDK was hired with D.W. Arthur Associates Architecture to work on childcare facilities in various federal buildings including crib rooms, classroom space, play rooms, restrooms, and food preparation areas. RDK’s mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection design work included soil, waste and vent systems, toilet exhaust systems, domestic hot and cold water systems, and new connections for sinks for additional restrooms, lounge and food preparation areas. The overall goal was to make the space more safe and comfortable for employees to use while maintaining the required student-teacher ratio and new fire alarm systems. The end result was an updated facility and overall safer place for employees and children. Projects to date include the William J. Green Jr. Federal Building Childcare Center in Philadelphia, PA; Fed Kids Childcare Expansion in the Jacob Jarvis Federal Building in New York, NY; and the Joseph Addabbo Federal Office Building Playground Design in New York, NY. |
