DCAM, Department of Fire Services,  Firefighting Academy Expansion

The Department of Fire Services (DFS) Firefighting Academy in Stow, MA serves as the training grounds for firefighters and public safety officials throughout the Commonwealth. With the increased demand for advanced fire safety training, expansion of the existing facility became a necessity.

RDK Engineers provided full MEP/FP engineering building systems design for the $44M expansion of the academy. The project includes a new 42,000 SF administration building, a new 26,000 SF fire station, a new 17,200 SF warehouse/shop building, storage, and renovation of the existing 36,000 SF academy building.

Numerous sustainable system design initiatives were also incorporated which included photovoltaic panels, high-efficiency mechanical systems, and a innovative water recovery and treatment system that captures, treats, and recycles 75% of the water used for training purposes.

RDK Engineers is proud to have been part of the design team for creating a modern, sustainable, and state-of-the-art facility for training the Commonwealth’s brave firefighters.
