GSA by RDK Engineers

General Services Administration, Citizens and Immigration Services  (LEED SILVER)

The United States General Services Administration needed another local Citizens and Immigration Services (CIS) center to help ease the case load of the Boston office, leading them to build a new building in downtown Lawrence, Massachusetts. This one-story building contains all the critical elements for a successful CIS center including customer service areas, service counters, waiting areas, and a naturalization room.

As part of the Gorman Richardson Lewis Architects team, RDK was responsible for the design of mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and fire protection systems in addition to telecommunications, security design, and energy modeling. The 35,000 square foot building, earned LEED-NC Silver certification and was designed to promote the GSA’s focus on adding value to their facilities to benefit employees. The sustainable design included use of demand-controlled ventilation, water efficiency, and environmentally friendly refrigerant realizing 70.3 tons of carbon dioxide saved.
