Fidelity Smithfield Corporate Office Building (LEED SILVER)The design of the new 550,000 square foot building on Fidelity Investments corporate campus is the first LEED project for Fidelity and the largest building in Rhode Island. The LEED Silver certified building was designed in a wing-like structure, by the Gensler/RDK Team, to maximize the use of natural light and to provide an outside view from every part of the building. RDK designed an Underfloor Air Distribution System (UFAD) to be used in 80% of the building that contained offices, a fitness center, training center, kitchen, and a large computer area. The UFAD system provides better indoor air quality for the employees working in the space and consumes less energy than a conventional system helping to cut back on utility costs. Fidelity was spending one million dollars a year on irrigating the Smithfield site. In order to ease this financial burden, RDK developed a storm drainage system that collects from the roof area of the 100,000 square foot parking garage and discharges into a 40,000 gallon cistern that stores the storm water and uses it for irrigating the landscaped areas adjacent to the new building and garage. |
