Avid Technologies, known for their award-winning audio and video production solutions, moved from Tewksbury to their new worldwide corporate headquarters in three buildings in Burlington. In one of the largest lease transactions in Suburban Boston in 2009, Avid moved into 203,000 SF of space including private offices, customer presentation areas, 13,000 SF of data center space and 45,000 SF of electronics engineering labs.

The space, designed by Gensler, was created to provide modern, collaborative workspace for its employees with state-of-the-art facilities for educating and entertaining its growing global customer base. In keeping with this theme, RDK designed specialty HVAC ceiling diffusers utilized in labs to minimize drafts for occupant comfort while achieving the high airflows required to accommodate equipment loads and a raised floor data center with 100% UPS and generator back-up power.

An outdoor 500 ton evaporative cooled chiller plant was also installed to serve required 24/7 cooling needs in labs and data center requiring higher than standard office requirements. The chiller plant was completely fabricated and witness-tested by RDK and Erland Construction to ensure proper configuration and operation to avoid any issues when installed on site. Avid was able to close their existing facility on a Wednesday evening and open for business the following Monday without interruption.
