GE New Headquarters

RDK is providing MEP/FP/telecom/audio visual/security/energy design services for the new 390,000 SF Corporate Headquarters for General Electric on Necco Street. The project includes a new, twelve-story building with one level of underground parking and a public café and co-working space on the first floor, as well as the renovation of two adjacent six-story historic buildings.

The 800 employee campus is targeted for completion in 2019. The project will begin with the rehabilitation of the existing buildings, and new construction will follow. The campus will incorporate 1.5 acres of public space, including an expanded harborwalk along the Fort Point Channel. Amenities include a coffee shop and restaurant, lab space, as well a designated area for startups and students. An innovation and exploration center will be created to effectively highlight the past, present and future of GE.

Comprehensive energy engineering services were provided to support the master planning, programming and all phases of design for the new campus. Various metrics were tracked throughout the process to aid in the campus design, including: annual energy costs, potential LEED points, energy use intensity (EUI) and carbon emissions. These metrics were benchmarked to similar buildings within the industry along with local energy codes. Services included campus wide energy modeling, ice storage optimization, combined heat and power review and life cycle cost analysis.

The new headquarters will contribute to transforming Boston’s Fort Point neighborhood and enhance the Seaport District, which is quickly becoming a hub for technology companies.
