311 Summer Street (LEED PLATINUM)With the purchase of the historic building dating back to the 1900’s and the relocation of their headquarters from Cambridge to 311 Summer Street in Boston's Fort Point Channel, the design team's priority was to preserve the identity of the building while incorporating sustainable design elements. Sustainable features, including dual flushing toilets, a white roof on the building, operable windows, occupancy sensors, and daylighting systems, helped the owner/tenant realize a 54% less energy usage than at the former office. The building achieved LEED–CI Platinum certification making it the first architecture and design studio space and the fourth CI project in Massachusetts to achieve this designation. The project was also the winner of the 2009 Preservation Achievement Award for Adaptive Use of a Historical Industrial Space given by the Boston Preservation Alliance. |
