WPI Bartlett Admissions Building by RDK Engineers

Worcester Polytechnic Institute Bartlett Admissions Building (LEED CERTIFIED)

As the very first building on the Worcester Polytechnic Institute (WPI) campus to earn LEED certification, the New Bartlett Admissions Building serves as the gateway to the college campus and is situated prominently on the school’s central historic quadrangle. The building serves as an impressive first stop for prospective students and their families.  Because all four sides of the building are visible, carefully integrated, creatively concealed MEP systems within the building were designed so as not to be a visual detraction from the aesthetics of the building’s exterior.

Housing the university's Undergraduate Admissions and Financial Aid offices, the Bartlett Center is a two-story building featuring floor-to-ceiling glass windows, a large reception area, multimedia presentation room, and administrative offices. Teaming with CBT Architects, RDK was responsible for design and commissioning of energy efficient, sustainable building systems for the 15,000 square foot building, which also received USGBC LEED certification. The building features MEP systems designed to achieve numbers that exceed the minimum state code requirements by 22%, including high-efficiency HVAC and plumbing systems that provide optimum water efficiency.

RDK was proud to have provided a high performance, discreetly integrated MEP system design that was in support of the project’s green goals.
