Worcester State College Wasylean Residence HallFunded by the Massachusetts School Building Authority (MSBA), the construction of a new 106,500 square foot residence hall helped transition Worcester State College from a commuter-based school to a traditional campus. The design of the residence hall consists of comfortable suites with their own kitchens, bathrooms, bedrooms, and common rooms making Wasylean an ideal housing option for those new to campus and those in their final years. RDK was responsible for the design of the mechanical, electrical, plumbing and fire protection systems for this residence hall. These systems included a two-pipe change over system, gas-fired boilers, Direct Digital Control (DDC) building management system, emergency and standby power generator, lightning protection system, and automatic sprinklers and standpipes. The residence hall, containing multiple student lounges, a coffee shop, community rooms, and a kitchen facility, provides students with many gathering places helping to bring together students of all ages. This design-build project received the 2005 Honor Award for Design Excellence by the AIA Central Massachusetts Chapter proving it was a great addition to the Worcester State College campus. |
