ACADEMIC WORK

Westfield State College Residence Hall by RDK Engineers

Westfield State College Residence Hall

RDK is proud to have helped provide Westfield State College with its very first, contemporary, suite-style residence hall.

Containing 78 one-and-two bedroom apartment style units, each with a common room, kitchen and private baths, the complex also houses a Resident Director’s apartment, mailroom, laundry facilities, convenience shop, lounge and student activity areas, and facility management space. Designed to accommodate not only student activities during the academic year, but also conferencing activities throughout the summer, the new facility is fully air conditioned and equipped with a state-of-the-art security system.

In order to maximize the new system functionality, RDK designed a Direct Digital Control (DDC) building management system for energy efficiency; automatic sprinklers; an emergency generator for back-up of life safety systems; standby power for lighting and heating systems; and a lightning protection system. In addition, RDK provided individualized attention on the project after occupancy to further refine and improve upon energy recovery unit controls for optimizing building performance and comfort for the students.
