Northfield Mount Hermon Rhodes Arts Center (LEED GOLD)Northfield Mount Hermon recognized the impact the visual and performing arts has on their students, and decided their arts program needed a permanent home. RDK as part of the CBT Architects design team was responsible for the mechanical, electrical, plumbing, fire protection and telecommunications design of the new, 63,000 square feet, 250-seat performing arts center. The $29 million project features a concert hall with associated support areas including control room, choral and instrumental rehearsal spaces, theaters, dressing rooms, dance studios, visual arts studios, offices, practice rooms, and teaching studios.
Special attention was given to the design of the lighting and sound systems in the theaters and the exhaust systems in the photography and ceramics studios. RDK designed systems keeping in mind acoustical concerns of the mechanical equipment. A number of sustainable/energy conserving features were also included to help the arts center achieve LEED Gold Certification. RDK is proud to be part of the team who created a facility that enriches student’s lives and brings together students, faculty, and the entire community.
