ACADEMIC WORK

Bunker Hill Community College Health and
Wellness Center

Mechanical engineering services for the design of the new 49,000 SF, 2-story academic building that houses the college’s health sciences programs. The $22.8M facility includes state-of-the-art classrooms; laboratories for respiratory therapy, ultrasound, x-ray, medical imaging, and nursing; and a competition gymnasium and fitness center.

The project has earned LEED Gold certification, and is the first new building on the Charlestown Campus in 30 years.  The building is designed to make use of natural light and conserve water.  RDK provided sustainable HVAC engineering systems design to enable the reduction of energy usage for heating and cooling.  RDK designed the HVAC system to include 5 rooftop units, 2 energy recovery units, 2 variable volume units with several fan powered boxes throughout the building.  The HVAC system is connected into the existing hot and chilled water plant.  In addition, CO2 monitoring is provided in all rooms to control outdoor air supply. RDK was proud to have teamed with DiNisco Design on this important project.

Key Features:

  • LEED Gold
  • Sustainable HVAC engineering systems design
